“Come and see what we do and why we love it!” Lunken airport is home to an amazing array of corporate and private aircraft. Based here too are, historic Warbirds, technologically advanced personal, pleasure aircraft, homebuilts, experimentals and trainers. A vast variety of aircraft will be on display on the main ramp behind the terminal, on Saturday and Sunday.
The ramp will be open both days to the public for displays, talking to pilots, air traffic controllers, and warbird enthusiasts. We will host representatives from area flying and aircraft maintenance schools, community colleges, military recruiters and universities. There will be displays of interest for students who want to pursue an aviation career and aviation books. Visit all of the mechanics on the field– they are the ones that maintain these magnificent flying machines! Scavenger Hunt for kids. Take a helicopter or airplane ride ( $45 per person ). Veterans Breakfast Saturday – Only $5, 9-11am and Big Band Quartet at 1:00 each day. Color Guard ceremony both days at noon with flyovers (TBD).
The EAA will have their touring Flying Fortress – B 17 “ Aluminum Overcast “ on the ramp from September 12-15, giving rides and tours “Aluminum Overcast is an example of the American heavy bomber that helped turn the tide of World War ll. You can see and tour this historic aircraft – and actually fly a mission. See the Camo field operations area ( you can eat inside !) For further ride information please call 800-359-6217.
